Waveland Golf Course is the oldest municipal golf course west of the Mississippi River. Established in 1901, the course has been rated a top 100 public golf course in the country.

With 18 holes sculpted from rolling terrain featuring large greens, finely manicured fairways and majestic trees, Waveland provides a magnificent setting for a peaceful round of golf in the center of Des Moines.

The greens are in excellent condition, but tend to be on the fast side and are often difficult to read.  Sand traps are limited, due to the amount of hills and trees.  The fairways are fully irrigated, but the grass sometimes suffers due to the lay of the land.  Along with the trees, the rough is relatively high.

The course is a favorite for local golfers as over 40,000 rounds are played each year. In addition, the vintage 1940's red brick clubhouse provides a pleasant atmosphere and unmatched facility for outings, weddings and other events.
